20081123 weather data for the 24 hours to 7am at 860m

Previous Day Field Observations:

Yesterday (22nd) we traveled to 2000m in the backcountry. Intense snow transport was observed on Hakuba Norikura Dake from the SW, with possible/obvious loaded zones. No evidence of wind effected snow below 2000m with light local winds from the SW. Foot penetration was to the hip with between 1-2m on consolidating snow (depth varied with vegetation). Temperatures recorded: 10.20am, -2C at 1500m, sunny. Midday, -2C at 1800m, foggy. 1.45pm, at 2000m -4.1C with broken clouds. Below 2000m we found weather conditions that were generally leading towards stabilisation.

No avalanche previous activity was observed. Note: no one traveled above 2000m. Some typical glide fractures in gassy steep slopes.
