Distant Goryu Dake (2814m)
Myself, Nick from Hakuba Powder Lodging, my brother Luke and Mio spent and easy day hiking up the Goryu ridge to ride the south face from 1900m. Stability was poor so we reversed our ascent back to 1600m and a more stable south aspect line back into the river valley that leads to my house. It was an easy day with a good group consensus about the poor stability and our decision to turn back.
Gentle snowfall, very calm winds and a the occasional break in the clouds permitted us to enjoy the environment. Poor snow stability meant that we turned back from our intended line (SE spine from the 1982m feature on Goryu ridge). A team of Norwegian ski film makers did the same.
